Attentional gain modulation as a basis for translationinvarianceEmilio
نویسنده
چکیده
Inferotemporal (IT) neurons in monkeys can respond to visual stimuli in a translation-and scale-invariant manner. In a neural circuit model based on a recently reported form of gain modulation by attention in area V4, the modulated visual responses of model V4 neurons produce object-centered receptive elds further down the visual processing stream, accounting for invariances exhibited by IT neurons.

متن کاملA Unifying Mechanistic Model of Selective Attention in Spiking Neurons
Visuospatial attention produces myriad effects on the activity and selectivity of cortical neurons. Spiking neuron models capable of reproducing a wide variety of these effects remain elusive. We present a model called the Attentional Routing Circuit (ARC) that provides a mechanistic description of selective attentional processing in cortex. The model is described mathematically and implemented...
متن کاملGain modulation in the central nervous system: where behavior, neurophysiology, and computation meet.
Gain modulation is a nonlinear way in which neurons combine information from two (or more) sources, which may be of sensory, motor, or cognitive origin. Gain modulation is revealed when one input, the modulatory one, affects the gain or the sensitivity of the neuron to the other input, without modifying its selectivity or receptive field properties. This type of modulatory interaction is import...
متن کاملA Feedback Model of Attention Explains the Diverse Effects of Attention on Neural Firing Rates and Receptive Field Structure
Visual attention has many effects on neural responses, producing complex changes in firing rates, as well as modifying the structure and size of receptive fields, both in topological and feature space. Several existing models of attention suggest that these effects arise from selective modulation of neural inputs. However, anatomical and physiological observations suggest that attentional modul...
متن کاملModulation Response and Relative Intensity Noise Spectra in Quantum Cascade Lasers
Static properties, relatively intensity noise and intensity modulation response in quantum cascade lasers (QCLs) studied theoretically in this paper. The present rate equations model consists of three equations for the electrons density in the conduction band and one equation for photons density in cavity length. Two equations were derived to calculate the noise and modulation response. Calcula...
